Growing up my father would tell me 'son if you don't vote, then you dont have a right to complain' and I believed it. However, as I get older having a business and a child, for me just voting is no longer enough. I am compelled to get involved. The specific point at which I made the decision was earlier this year when I saw, and heard, a Russell County Commissioner say 'citizens have blown the issue out of proportion' and wants her voters to trust her. Regarding the landfill issue a few years ago. The commissioner went on to be quoted saying 'I think if you let the commissioners do their job and stop bringing in so many outsiders to tell us how to do our job. This problem could have been resolved way back. We wouldnt have even had to have a public hearing.' I believe citizens have the right to voice their concerns and be involved in government in any way they can. -(A) I will bring a new perspective and fresh ideas to the commission and Russell County and I'll actively seek excellence in all things never being satisfied with the status quo.. -(B) I will put the voters and Russell County first. -(C) I will be transparent and maintain a constant line of communication with the community so that the community is constantly aware of whats going on in their government. -(D) I have the ability to make decisions independently if necessary or as part of a team to make Russell County great. I won't allow my decisions to be influenced by back room deals or "the good ole boy network." My decisions will be influenced only by what the voters want and what is best for Russell County. -(E) I am business minded and will conduct myself as commissioner as if operating a business. I will seek to make Russell County a more desirable place to work, live and go to school by improving the job and business sectors, as well as actively assisting the local school boards, where possible, and developing a relationship with teachers in an effort to help improve education. -(F) I will assist law enforcement in any way possible with crime prevention and law enforcement in Russell County. Especially in the area of theft, drugs and crimes against children. My door is always open and my ear is always receptive to members of our law enforcement. I don't know any of them personally; however, I've spoken to several current and past commissioners over the recent few years. They all seem to be good people with a sincere desire to do what is best for Russell County. I think the District 3 incumbent is a sweet and good person. If I weren't campaigning for the position I would vote for the incumbent. That being said, I think I can do a better job. First a disclaimer: My answer is not directed toward anyone in particular, but rather toward the subject as a whole. I think there is a need for politics however, I think politicians tend to mess things up. I think many politicians are like snake oil salesmen and tell people what they want to hear just to get elected. I have 4 black belts in martial arts. |
